The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays is a medal awarded in recognition of long years of service and achievement, and may be conferred on foreign nationals. The Order of the Sacred Treasure, First Class, is divided into two categories: those awarded on ceremonial occasions, such as the visit to Japan of a state guest or the departure of a diplomat, and those awarded to foreigners who have contributed to the promotion of friendly relations with Japan.
The Order of the Sacred Treasure, 1st Class, is awarded on ceremonial occasions and to foreigners who have contributed to friendship and goodwill with Japan (e.g., diplomats).
The Order of the Sacred Treasure may also be awarded to military personnel (especially officers of the Army, Navy, and Air Force).
